Independent energy advice

Energy advice that starts with your building, not a sales pitch

We do not sell insulation, boilers or solar panels. We survey, we measure, and we tell you which improvements will move your rating and your bills, in what order, and what they are likely to involve. For homeowners, landlords and housing providers across Coventry and the Midlands.

What you get

An EPC ends with a list of recommendations. They are a useful start, but they are generated by the software and they cannot know your budget, your plans for the house or the order you would like to do things in. Energy advice picks up where the certificate stops.

  • Where the property stands now, element by element: walls, roof, floors, windows, heating, hot water and lighting.
  • The options, modelled. We test combinations of improvements and show what each does to the rating.
  • A sensible order. Some measures only make sense after others. Getting the sequence right avoids paying twice.
  • What to watch for. Ventilation, damp risk and anything about the building that limits what should be done to it.
  • A written summary you can hand to an installer or keep as the plan for the property.

Fabric first, and why the order matters

The cheapest energy is the energy a building never needs. That is why sound advice usually starts with the fabric: the roof, walls, floors, windows and draughts. Reduce the heat a home loses and everything that follows gets easier. A smaller heating system will do the job, and it will run more efficiently.

Ventilation comes with it. Make a house more airtight without thinking about fresh air and you invite condensation and mould. PAS 2035, the national retrofit standard, was written because too many well-meant improvements had exactly that result.

Heating and renewables come last. A heat pump or solar panels fitted to a well-insulated, well-ventilated home will perform as promised. Fitted to a leaky one, they often disappoint.

The questions we are asked most

What gets my rental to a C for the least money?

We model the options against the planned £10,000 cap and show you the shortest route.

Why is my rating lower than next door's?

Usually one or two elements, or evidence that was missing at the last survey. We find out which.

Is my home ready for a heat pump?

We look at how well it holds heat and what should be improved first.

Which upgrades are worth doing before I sell?

Some lift a rating by a band for modest cost. Others never pay back. We tell you which is which.

Help with the cost

We can point you towards the schemes that currently exist. Eligibility is always decided by the scheme itself.

  • Warm Homes: Local Grant. Delivered through local councils for low-income households in homes with poor energy ratings.
  • Boiler Upgrade Scheme. A £7,500 grant towards replacing a fossil fuel boiler with a heat pump.
  • ECO4. Closing on 31 December 2026.

The government has also said it is developing low and zero interest loans for home upgrades under the Warm Homes Plan. We will update this page as those arrive.

How it works

  1. Tell us what you are trying to achieve. A band, a budget, a warmer back bedroom.
  2. We survey the property, or work from a recent assessment of ours if one exists.
  3. We model the options and write up what we found.
  4. We talk it through with you and answer questions.

If you go ahead with work under PAS 2035, we can also provide the retrofit assessment and coordination.

Energy advice questions

Before you spend anything.

Do I need an EPC before getting advice?

It helps, and we can produce one in the same visit. An up-to-date survey means the advice is based on the building as it is now.

Do you sell or install anything?

No. We do not install insulation, heating or solar panels, so the advice is not shaped by what we have to sell.

Can you tell me whether my home suits a heat pump?

We can tell you how well the building holds heat, what would need improving first and what the EPC would look like afterwards. A heat pump installer then carries out the detailed heat loss design.

Can you help with grants?

We can point you to the schemes that exist and what they generally cover, such as the Boiler Upgrade Scheme's £7,500 grant towards a heat pump, or the Warm Homes: Local Grant delivered through councils. Eligibility is decided by the scheme, not by us.

I am a landlord. Can you show me the cheapest route to band C?

Yes. It is one of the most common reasons landlords call us. We model the options for the property and show what each would do to the rating.
